Olaf's story covers aspects of Viking home life, trade, exploration, seamanship, battle and plans to settle in England.

Meet  King Alfred the Great, the only English monarch to be called 'Great.'


Content

Alfred tells the tale of how he reluctantly became king and how he was determined to rid Wessex of the Viking invaders. Join him in his adventures with with his trusted thanes and fierce bodyguard Swithin-of-the-Sword.

Also discover why Alfred let those cakes burn and how, once peace was restored, he tried to make England a better and safer place.

Sutton Hoo Ship burial - King Raedwald's helmet.

The Anglo Saxon and Viking workshops now feature a piece about Sutton Hoo using a full-scale replica of the magnificent 7th century helmet excavated from the Sutton Hoo Ship burial mound in 1939.
